I LITERALLY HATE THIS VIDEO!!!!! lol

But one thing that truly inspires me is progress. This video makes me cringe when I watched it, but that’s where I was three years ago. And to see the bounds that I have leaped, and how much progress I have made inspires me EVERYDAY. It makes me want to be better than I was yesterday, and push myself until I can’t push anymore. As dancers we face doubt (and doubt ourselves) everyday, but it is how we over come that doubt that makes us the superstars that we are. I look at the progression that my choreography and dancing has made since this monstrosity of a video, and I am truly proud of myself AND the people in this video. They obviously believed in my talent, and I must have too, putting up something this crazy looking. LOL….

As Laurie Ann Gibson says “You are only as strong as your last 8 count”!

Thank GOD, this wasn’t my last! lol

There’s nothing that inspires me more than, people who genuinely enjoy what they do. That’s why this week I decided to talk about Nia Dance Troupe #NIAORDIE. I joined this company over three years ago, and even in the midst of moving to NYC (Nia is located in Boston) I STILL CAN’T SAY GOODBYE! Each and every person in this company inspires me, every person in Nia loooooves to dance. And it shows each time we hit the stage, whether it be as a group or as individual. As one of the older members of the company, a lot of the members looks up to me. Little do they know I pull inspiration from them as well. Everyone in the company is so passionate about what they do, even if they do not want to pursue dance. There’s something about someone who goes the extra mile to achieve their goal, that makes me want to go harder.

There’s so much talent in this company choreographers, dancers, singers, etc. When all that energy is together there is no choice but to be creative and inspired. Each time I watch this performance it reminds me why I love Nia Dance troupe so much, the chemistry on stage cannot be denied. :)

My first Inspiration!

This may be cliche, but SO WHAT??? It’s the truth.

One of my biggest inspirations is not a famous person, not a Professor, or even a professional dancer. It is my Mother, Eugenia Cooks (She is going to kill me for saying her governement). I was exposed to dance at a very young age. My mother was always at rehearsals and dancing in shows. She ALWAYS brought me along with her. Growing up, it was just me and my mom. I looked up to her so much and whatever she did I wanted to do. She was my HERO. Every time I saw her dance I said, “I want to do that too”. And it didn’t take long before I followed in her foot steps. I don’t remember ever wanting to be or do anthing else but DANCE. I think what led me to this career path was my mother’s passion. She loved it, and you could see it in the way she moved. Dance was something she could not lived without; something that made her happy.

17 years later, I am in pursuing what I love DANCE. Even though my mother does not dance anymore (She gave it up to take care of her two wonderful kids). I bring her passion and commitment with me every time I step on a dance floor. Even though my mother CAN NOT dance anymore lol, she is still my favorite dancer. She is my biggest fan, she keeps me going when times get hard and I love her for that. :)

AMAZING!! I will marry her (lol) and choreograph for her one day! :)
